Gastrointestinal Microbiome Mapping

A microbiome is a community of microbes - "good and bad bacteria" - that create a vital ecosystem. We have several microbiomes throughout our body, but the one that can have the biggest impact on your health is your gut microbiome. This ecosystem is vital to our digestive health and nutrient absorption. The microbiome also helps to regulate your immune system and interacts with and is connected to all organs and body systems and plays a vital role in mental health, hormonal health, thyroid, metabolism and blood sugar regulation.

What can a microbiome test tell us about your health?

Testing your microbiome can help us to identify and treat underlying causes:

  • Immune dysfunction such as food intolerances, eczema, asthma and allergies and autoimmune diseases

  • Digestive conditions including constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, nutrient deficiencies, diverticular disease, IBS or IBD, parasites and bacterial infections

  • Metabolic disorders including PCOS, Type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance

  • Cardiovascular conditions, hormonal imbalances, chronic inflammation, mental health and more.

I recommend testing with Microba, as this test was developed by naturopaths, nutritionists, research scientists and food scientists who are passionate about the microbiome. Microba microbiome testing uses the gold standard in microbiome testing with shotgun metagenomics to identify up to 28,000 microbes with 95% accuracy. Microba identify microbial species with the highest level of accuracy, and their database is able to tell us the actions of the species in the gut and the body, and also the potential health benefits or risks of those microbes. From this, targeted recommendations can be given to help improve microbial diversity. Recommendations are not just "eat more fibre" but "eat this specific food or fibre at this dosage" to improve your health. Most recommendations will be "food as medicine" which is always my favourite way to make long lasting changes to my clients’ health.

If you experience bloating, constipation or looser bowel movements, food intolerances, regular bloating or abdominal pains and are wanting to resolve these as well as finding out more about your microbiome and the other health implications, this test is for you. This test includes all the gastrointestinal health and microbiome markers, GIT inflammation markers and parasites and harmful bacteria testing.
